Whether you're new to cold therapy or a seasoned pro, you're probably doing it for the benefits of exposure to the cold rather than by carrying all the ice you need to get in the physical activity. Let's face it - the amount of ice required to keep an ice bath cool can become quite a burden. Our chillers will effortlessly keep your ice bath cool, which should result in more consistent and more frequent use. Make the most of your ice bath by turning it into an ice-free bath!

Under the right conditions, a chiller can reach temperatures as low as 36 degrees Fahrenheit and even as high as 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Ambient temperature and sunlight exposure account for the majority of a cold therapy tub's heat load (your body heat is insignificant compared to the sun). Reducing external heat loads will improve chiller performance. Even in sunny/less than ideal conditions, low to mid 40 degrees Fahrenheit should be possible with settings up to +/-100 gallons.


A common question we get is how to set the timer on our chiller. Ideally, you want to keep the water cold at all times. There are several reasons for this -

Cold water largely controls the growth of bacteria (slimy walls) by slowing or stopping them. This greatly reduces the amount of maintenance required to keep the water clean for longer. This means less frequent water changes and a much lower effective dose of disinfectant (chlorine/hydrogen peroxide, etc.).
If you use it regularly, the potential energy savings will be fairly negligible, and the heat it gained during the "off" period will still need to be removed when you turn it back on. So if running typically costs $18-28/month, you could potentially save $3-5/month. However, water and filters must be replaced more frequently, so net cost savings are unlikely.
When you cut power to the chiller, you also cut power to the pump. Pumps wear the most during startup, which is when pumps are most likely to fail. Power to the circulating cooler will only increase unnecessary wear and tear on the pump.

  3. 2qty bulkheads – require 1″ hole through the wall of your tank
  4. Barb fittings to fit the bulkheads and connect the 3/4″
  5. 8qty hose clamps

 

*Please note your setup needs to gravity prime to the pump, the pump is not capable of self priming/suction.   Place the chiller within 3′ of the drain of your tub, the bottom of the chiller should be at the same or lower height compared to the bottom of your tub – do not elevate the chiller above the tub.  An overly long tubing run from the tub drain to the chiller inlet may cause the pump to fail to move enough water.
